Hydrangea — Featured at MCAA’s Annual Member Exhibit

The Mendocino County Art Association Member Exhibit is always a highlight of the year for me. It’s an honor to share space with so many talented local artists at the Corner Gallery, 201 S. State St., Ukiah. The exhibit opens on November 7th during the First Friday Artwalk from 5pm-8pm. I will be showing my watercolor painting, Hydrangea. I hope to see you there!

Hydrangea is the result of both a wonderful workshop experience and my ongoing artistic journey. In September, I had the privilege of attending a workshop with the incredibly talented Jeannie Vodden, a watercolorist know for her unique style. Jeannie guided us through her method of capturing the delicate beauty of flowers using a limited triadic palette of transparent, staining hues. Her approach centers on glazing—layering thin washes of color and allowing them to mix on the paper, creating depth and texture.

The most rewarding aspect of creating Hydrangea was finding the delicate balance between honoring Jeannie’s process and embracing her guidance, while still allowing my own artistic voice to shine through. This allowed the painting to evolve into something that feels authentic to my style, blending Jeannie’s techniques with my own approach.
