Capturing Autumn in Watercolor: The Making of Autumn Harvest
One of my favorite parts of the painting process is stepping back to see how a piece evolves over time. Occasionally, I’ll pause to snap a few progress photos. It’s a simple habit that helps me assess balance, color harmony, and overall composition — and later, it becomes a beautiful record of the painting’s journey from the first brushstroke to the final detail.
In this post, I’m excited to share a progress video created from photos, documenting the making of my latest watercolor painting, Autumn Harvest. This piece was inspired by all the little joys that come with the season — the crisp air, the vibrant fall colors, and the visits to the local pumpkin patch.
From outline to final detail, each pumpkin in Autumn Harvest was carefully layered with transparent washes, allowing the warm hues and subtle shadows to build gradually.
As you watch the video, I hope you’ll enjoy seeing how the painting unfolded — how each wash of color brought the scene closer to capturing that nostalgic, comforting feeling of fall.
